Step 1: Creating A Head Cast

The first step in making a mold is to take a head cast of a human model. The model's head is covered with a balding cap and Vaseline - vital to ensure the mold can easily be removed. Then we cover the model's head and neck with alginate, the same substance used to make dental molds, leaving a space around the nostrils so the model can breathe.
